Our Story

In 1885 William Scott and Abraham LaRue first preached the Adventist message in Hawaii on the island of Oahu. On December 27th of that year Elder W. M. Healey, his wife and daughter came to conduct an evangelistic series in Honolulu. From that beginning, Adventism spread to the other islands.

On September 27, 1930, Kauai’s first Adventist church was established in Kapaa with 12 members. On May 4, 1935 a second church was organized in Kalaheo with 16 members, and in January of 1947, a third church with about 24 members was formed in Kekaha.

Today, the Kapaa church, which is still at the same location on 1132 Kuhio Highway, has approximately 200 members.

In 1976, the Lawai Valley Church replaced the Kalaheo and Kekaha churches, and is located at 3469 Koloa Road, next to ‘The Hawaiian Trading Post.” We have a membership of approximately 200, and meet at 9:20 each Saturday morning singing praises. The Sabbath School classes for all ages starts at 9:30 and the church service at 11:00.

Our members come from all walks of life and all nationalities. There are three things that we’re known for: Corporately worshiping God on the 7th day of the week, studying the Bible, and loving people. Even first time visitors feel like part of the family at Lawai Valley and after the services, the members provide a delicious vegetarian potluck meal for everyone.
